Ethnic studies class

Mr. Tonsoni is doing something new with his third hour class this semester; he is teaching an ethnic studies class. The class covers cultures topically, for example, comparing ceremonies of African countries to those of Asian countries. “The class is super inclusive and student led,” stated senior Makaila Summers. According to Mr. Tonsoni, the main idea he hopes the students will take away from this class is that “different doesn’t mean bad, that we all have value in a changing world.” This class has been offered one time before to the class of 2020. This year, there are 10 students who have opted to take this elective. One student, senior Emma Milburn, stated, “I enjoy the discussions we have and I am excited to learn about different cultures and their traditions. I believe this class will allow me to open my eyes a little more and be able to better understand others.”
