Gabi, A Girl In Pieces

Gabi, A Girl In Pieces

This month’s book club pick is Gabi, a Girl in Pieces by Isabel Quintero. The story follows our main character, Gabi, a Mexican girl trying to finish her senior year of high school. High school presents the normal challenges such as assignments and mean girls, but Gabi has a little bit more going on than that. One of her best friends recently came out as gay and the other announced she was pregnant. Not to mention her dad is a drug addict. However, that seems to be all that is happening in the book. That takes up the entirety of the plot. There seems to be nothing else really happening. It wasn’t like your average coming of age novel; however it was an easy read and wasn’t bad, just not something I’d want to reread. If you are interested in reading this book, you can stop by the LMC and pick up a copy and join the book club meeting on Sept. 21.
