Senior Spotlight: Swim Season

Swimming is a sport of mental and physical toughness. Like many senior athletes, Maddie Adams, Fayth Jacobs, Ethan Nelson (manager) and Sheridan Rice (manager) are hopeful for a full season this year despite the late start and many school closures surrounding Delphi. Normally, Coach Schorm would have swim conditioning starting in the summer months and then begin in-water workouts as fall sports conclude. With the recent school shut-down, the swim team is left with less than three weeks of practice before their first meet, giving the team less than a month to condition in the water before the first meet. Coach Schorm, making adjustments with the given circumstances, has switched the practice mentality from swimming the most yards as possible to perfecting stroke technique as he emphasizes that it is hard on the body doing endurance training, then having a two week break, then endurance training again. With the new approach, the seniors lead the team with positivity and flexibility willing to do whatever it takes to make the season happen.
