DCHS students train to become CNAs

Mrs. Miller’s Health Science II class is currently in the midst of their clinicals. This means that every morning they meet at St. Elizabeth nursing home at seven o’clock and stay until they come to school around nine. During this time, they are working with certified nursing assistants (CNAs) to help the nursing home residents shower, use the restroom, dress, and eat. Some of these activities were originally met with unease, but now the students are excited to go and help. The class has already finished the 30 hour classroom portion and is now working on their 75 hands-on hours. With these hours, they are learning a set of 72 skills that they will be tested on later in the year. If they pass both the written and practical tests, they with become licensed CNAs themselves. Mrs. Miller is excited about this group and is very confident in their abilities. “We have a great group this year. I think they are all going to do really well and pass.”
