‘Super Mario Bros.’ smashing records
“It’sAme, MarioooOOO!” If you haven’t heard already, Universal Picture and Illumination Entertainment’s Super Mario Bros. Movie had one of the most unanticipated box office weekends for any movie in over a decade, breaking all expectations of how it would perform. Super Mario Bros. Movie now holds the title of the biggest worldwide opening of all time for an animated film, the biggest opening of all time for a video game adaptation, the biggest opening of 2023 (yes, it passed both Ant Man: Quantumanina and Jesus Revolution), and the top opening in entertainment company Illumination’s history (think Despicable Me, Sing, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, etc.). Mario (Chris Pratt), Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy) and Bowser (Jack Black) take viewers on an emotional journey through the almost entire Nintendo Mario Universe that multiple generations have come to know and love. Featuring scenes from nearly every game in the Mario franchise, movie-goers won’t be able to catch a boring bit! Full of easter eggs (ironic, considering the weekend the movie debuted), gamer-references, and even a potentially Oscar-worthy song, Super Mario Bros. Movie is sure to be a hit for all ages.
Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently showing in theaters and should be available to stream on Peacock in the coming months.
