Popular Reality TV shows returning in force

The Voice

Season 23 of The Voice kicks off next Monday, March 6. This season brings in two new coaches, Niall Horan (One Direction) and Chance The Rapper (basically Justin Bieber’s beat-dropping sidekick). Kelly Clarkson, who originally joined as a coach for Season 14, will return after taking a year off. Sadly, Blake Shelton announced that this will be his last season as a coach. If you’re excited to watch this sensation of a singing show, it’s airing on NBC and is available to stream the next day on Peacock.

The Bachelor

Season 27 of The Bachelor debuted in late January. Featuring 26 year-old California-native Zach Shallcross, this season holds the same plot as all the rest. One single man and twenty-five single women all come together for the same goal: to find a forever partner. Episode after episode, girls are eliminated based on the Bachelor’s preference. Eventually, after many dates, the male either proposes or he commits to a relationship. As one would expect, there’s drama, tears shed, trust broken, and (hopefully) love found. Consumers of romantic gameshow content: The Bachelor airs live every Monday on ABC and Hulu.

American Idol

SEASON 21! KATY PERRY! LUKE BRIAN! LIONEL RITCHIE! This fan-favorite singing competition dropped the first episode of its twenty-first season a little earlier this month. But, don’t worry if you’ve missed out thus far because auditions are still taking place (they’re not taking place literally, just finally being aired on TV). Hopeful pop artists-in-the-making auditioned last year in Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Nashville, and will now get a chance to compete against one another with the world as their stage. Who will get the golden ticket? Who will stun America with killer vocals? Who doesn’t look like they’ve ever whistled a tune in their life, but have a voice smoother than molasses? American Idol comes out every Sunday on ABC and is available to stream the next day on Hulu.

Survivor

If you haven’t heard of Jeff Probst by now, do you even live on planet Earth? This year, 18 contestants will be battling against each other during the FORTY-FOURTH season of Survivor. Holding the title of the fourth longest-running reality TV show, this cult-favorite’s plot (seriously, you may be in a cult if you’ve watched every season) hasn’t changed much since its debut. Somewhere in a remote, tropical “paradise,” a group of castaways have to make food and shelter, compete in grueling challenges, and create enough drama to get others voted off. (The winner takes home a million dollars . . . I’d probably blow everything out of proportion, too.) Plus, host/producer/showrunner/Survivor extraordinaire Jeff Probst confirmed there will be a “showmance” for the first time in seven seasons. If you’re into that type of thing, or just want to watch the first episode titled “I Can’t Wait To See Jeff,” Survivor will have a new episode every Wednesday on CBS and will be streaming on Paramount+ at the same time.
