Health Science 2 prepares for clinicals
The school year is starting which means so is our certified nursing assistant (CNA) class. The CNA students are learning the required skills necessary before starting their clinical hours. A few of the skills are denture care, oral care, using a gait belt, transferring to a wheelchair, proper handwashing, bed bathing and so much more. They have not yet started clinical hours, but plan to toward the end of October or early November. When the CNA students do start clinicals, they will be required to meet at the nursing home at 7 a.m. and will be there till around 9:30. Currently there are 8 students in the course. The CNA program requires 30 hours of classroom learning and 75 hours of clinicals. To get certified, students must also pass a state certification exam which consists of 100 questions and a hands-on skills portion. The students are normally ready to take their certification exam in April.
