  • What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
  • Vanilla! I enjoy the fact that you can add other toppings to vanilla ice cream to reflect whatever flavor you’re craving. My favorite brand is Glover, which is hard to find!

  • If you could eliminate one word from the English language, what would it be?
  • I would definitely eliminate the word whatever.  It gives a sense of reluctance and it’s very negative and dismissive; it tells you that the conversation is over, whether you like it or not.

  • What were the highlights of your childhood?
  • 4-H! I loved doing 4-H when I was young. A ten year member, I did projects in sewing, cooking, and food preservation. I would also have to say that one of the highlights of my high school classes was Home Economics. I wish it was still offered to you all!

  • Can you tell me why you’re so passionate about education?
  • My dad never got an opportunity to finish high school. Because of this, he never even brought up the possibility of us children not finishing high school. He encouraged his children to finish college and to us, there was no other option. We knew we would graduate, and we did. So, my dad is the reason I think that everyone that works hard and wants an education should have an opportunity in their life to get one. There’s no other better gift to give.

  • What is a story you love to tell, but hardly ever get a chance to?
  • I don’t get to tell everyone I meet about my grandchildren. Through my two kids, I have four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. They’re the light of my life.

  • BONUS: If you were in the witness protection program, what would be your new name and where would you go?
  • My name would be Angelica, and I would move to Italy.
