Senior Spotlight ~ Hope DeMello
Senior soccer player Hope DeMello has had a roller coaster of an experience during her high school career. With more lows than highs coming her way, she continues to push through with her head up and always making the best of everything. Just a few misfortunes that she has faced: last year’s soccer season being taken away in the beginning months of conditioning when she had a patellar dislocation (when the kneecap slides out its normal position), last year’s track season being cancelled shortly after practices started due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and this year’s rocky soccer season that left the players, coaches and parents heartbroken when Covid once again took a swing, taking the team out of sectionals and ending her soccer career with a hard loss. However, I think we all have a lesson to be learned from her. Despite all the things that have happened, she still gives a smile to everyone she talks to and never stops trying her absolute best despite an injury that she could have used as an excuse. Ask anyone who knows her and they can testify to the fact that she is mentally strong and always knows what to say, showing her true character and demonstrating what it means to be an Oracle athlete.
