DCHS Staff Exculsive: Mrs. Reef’s Board Messages

As student’s pass by the bulletin board near the math pod, they can often see inspiring phrases such as, “You are unique,” or “Be you!” But what people often forget is all the work that goes into the bulletin board. Resource teacher Mrs. Reef has taken it upon herself to decorate and create the inspirational messages that frequent the board. “Few people know this, but I use to work at the mall, in a clothing store. I would be the one who decorated in the windows, dressed up the mannequins and everything. I loved having that creative part, and I wanted to use that talent at Delphi.”

With only so many different creative ideas, Mrs. Reef sometimes has to rely on the internet for creative inspiration. “I usually find something I like, and then tweak it to something I think high schoolers will enjoy.” And her creative pursuits haven’t gone unnoticed. “Some teachers will come up and say, ‘That’s so creative!’. Some students will as well.” As for the message of the board, Mrs. Reef thinks that the messages portrayed on the board are important for today. “The phrase ‘You matter.’ is something very important for students to get, something they sometimes don’t get a lot.” That’s just what the board is trying to change.
