DCHS staff exclusives: Ms. Lawton furnishes LMC with coffee money
For many students, the LMC is not only a place of books, but also a place to relax, and maybe even grab a cup of coffee. That’s right—for some students, their favorite fixture in the school is smack dab in the middle of the LMC. For just $1, students are able to buy a cup of coffee to drink in the LMC.
With so many students buying the coffee, money to use for the LMC has been piling up quickly. Money from the coffee has been used to buy new books, fund B.O.B. and author visits, buy 4 Kindle Fires as prizes, buy the black lounge furniture, buy the new fit desk, and buy a jellyfish aquarium. Ms. Lawton, the DCHS librarian, said, “I wanted the coffee money used for the library for cool things the students would like.” The black lounge furniture and the jellyfish aquarium have been by far the two most popular things bought using coffee money.
The coffee earnings won’t stop. As long as students keep on buying coffee from the LMC, Ms. Lawton plans to keep on buying stuff to enhance students experience in the LMC. But the one thing that Ms. Lawton wants students to remember? “No beverages are allowed outside the LMC.”
