Lifeguarding class gives elementary kids swim lessons

For the rest of the school year, Mrs. Carpenter’s lifeguarding class will be teaching the third, fourth, and fifth grade students from DCES how to swim. The elementary schoolers come up to the pool three times a week—Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday—during seventh hour with their classroom teacher and the elementary physical education teacher Mr. Schultheiss. According to Mrs. Carpenter, this program is necessary because of all of the bodies of water in the area. She believes, “Every kid deserves to know how to swim, so if nothing else, they can save their life.”
