Book suggestions for Spring Break

Let’s face it: even on vacation, there are dull moments. Whether you’re spending a day at the beach or touring the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, you’re going to have some down time. Maybe it’s during the car rides, maybe it’s during the wait-time for a restaurant, or maybe it’s in your hotel room at night, but at some point, you will get bored and need something to do. Reading a book is the perfect way to take a vacation from your vacation (or staycation.)

  1. Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson―This book isn’t quite Spring Break (it’s summer vacation), but the feel of adventure and Florida heat is the same. Join Emily as she goes on a crazy scavenger hunt to try to find her best friend, Sloane, and as you get a tan on the beach.
  2. Legend by Marie Lu―No reading list would be complete without an action book, and this dystopian future fits the bill. Featuring intense fight scenes, too many betrayals to count, and a corrupt government, this book will keep you on the edge of your car seat.
  3. I Was Here by Gayle Forman―A bit of a deeper read than the others, but one definitely worth the three-hundred-some pages. Read about Cody as she tries to come to terms with her best friend’s suicide, and the scary role that the internet played in it. (Probably best to read in the privacy of your hotel room because it’s a tearjerker.)
  4. Beastly by Alex Flinn―This modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast, told from the “Beast’s perspective, is the perfect book to read when you want a realistic book, sprinkled with a bit of magic. The humor balances the sorrow as rich boy Kyle understands that love is deeper than physical appearances.
  5. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare―Allow the magical world of demons, warlocks, and Shadowhunters to sweep you up this Spring Break. Follow Clary as she hurries to find her abducted mother and learns about the secret life she hid among the Shadowhunters. Travel through NYC both literally and figuratively, if that’s your destination this Spring Break.
