What does the secretary of the student council, the record holder for the most rebounds, and the homecoming queen have in common? Bailey Gasser.  You may know her as the only girl in the senior class continuing her athletic career into the collegiate level, but she is a girl who can do it all.

Bailey has been playing sports her entire life. She is active in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Bailey states, ”Basketball is definitely my favorite out of all the sports I play.” She put on her first official basketball uniform in the 5th grade and has “played all year round on many different teams ever since.” But to come full circle, Bailey played alongside the same girls she started with in her last high school career game:  the 2016/2017 Regional Championship. Bailey is the epitome of a hardworking student athlete.  She wakes up early in the morning on the grind to shoot in the gym before school.  Mrs. Tonsoni, who occasionally rebounded for Bailey, posted on Twitter: ”She made it easy for me by draining ‘em.” Her hard work did not go unnoticed. On senior night, Bailey received an honorary ball recognizing her for breaking the record for the most rebounds in Delphi girl’s history with 667 rebounds, breaking a record set by her coach, Rainy Alting.  She also was recognized as the MVP of the North Team in the North vs South Game.

This three sport athlete isn’t just push ups and protein shakes, Bailey is also an honors student and highly ranked in her class.  According to Mr. Tonsoni, her former AP US History teacher, “Bailey Gasser is a great example of a student leader.  Bailey leads by example.  She is a person with great empathy for others, a person of integrity and an outstanding dedicated athlete.  Bailey Gasser is a role model, for other students and for teachers as well.” As a testament to her character as not only a teammate and a student, but a friend, Bailey was nominated by the school as the Hardcourt Homecoming Queen this winter. She is a leader in National Honor Society, Student Council, and has worked with the Bracketology Club with their weekly broadcasts.

Currently, Bailey lives at home with her mother and father (both math teachers at Delphi Community Middle School) and her two younger siblings: her brother Caden, and sister Jordyn.  Bailey and Jordyn joined each other on the Varsity Oracle court this year for Jordyn’s freshman year and Bailey’s senior year. Bailey jokes, “The youngest is always more talented.”

Next year, Bailey plans to attend DePauw University and major in kinesiology.  She has also committed to represent the Tigers on the court for the next four years. Announcing her commitment, Bailey tweeted, “I want to thank all my family, coaches, and friends for everything they have done. Without them, I would never have reached my dreams of playing college basketball.” After graduating from Depauw, Gasser plans to continue her education elsewhere as she pursues a master’s degree in athletic training.  Upon retirement, Bailey hopes to settle down and travel the world with the man of her dreams (preferably a tall blonde with a good sense of humor.)
