Applying for scholarships is quite possibly the most stressful and most disappointing time of a high school senior’s (or junior’s) life. There is the harrowing Google search, the lengthy application process, and finally, the tortuous wait to find out if you have received the scholarship or not. (Most of the time, not.) These negative factors tend to be off-putting to future college students; therefore, they don’t apply to these scholarships and hundreds of thousands of dollars are not claimed.
Some students do apply to scholarships. After all, they are a great way to pay for college with as little debt as possible. Once again, the problem of that agonizingly long Google search is brought up. That is where Scholly comes in.
According to www.scholly.com, “Scholly is the simple, accurate and comprehensive scholarship matching solution that was created by students for students.”
Scholly first got social media recognition when Christopher Gray, founder of Scholly, appeared on Shark Tank, the show where entrepreneurs get the chance to pitch their idea to five different multi-millionaires. Gray was able to strike up a deal with Lori Greiner and Daymond John of $40,000 and a total stake of 15%. Within the first two weeks after the episode premiered, Scholly was the number one app in the app store, and the website was getting about 8,000 hits per second.
“Gray, the son of a struggling single mother in Birmingham, AL, got the idea for [Scholly] after he went through the tortuous, time-consuming and confusing process of applying for outside scholarship money,” reported Anne Field, writer for Forbes online magazine. Gray won $1.3 million in scholarships and wanted to make the broken process easier for other students.
Here’s how to get Scholly: go to your app store, whether it be iOS Apple or the Google Play Store, and type in Scholly. It is a free app, although there is an in-app purchase of $2.99 to match scholarships with you. Type in your information, such as your name, age, high school, interests, etc., and let Scholly do the rest.
When you click on a scholarship, there will be a short description, four buttons concerning your progress with the scholarship (In Progress, Applied, Won, or Remove if it’s not the one for you), and an “Apply Here” button.
You can also go to myscholly.com and work on scholarships there.
Scholly is a wonderful and innovative way to tackle scholarships. It makes it easier to find and easier to apply. Download the app and make an account or go to the website and make an account. It doesn’t matter how to get there; the point is to get there. Scholly could be the idea that sends you to college. Give it a chance.
