Auditions for “Little Women” next week

Theatre-lovers, stage enthusiasts, actors, and actresses, grand news: the fall play has been announced and auditions are coming up. The play? The beloved story, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. For those who are not familiar with the classic tale, Little Women follows the lives of four young girls―Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March― and their cherished mother as they transition from childhood to adulthood.
Mrs. Cotten, the high school choir director, will be directing the three-act play. “I chose this show because it is one of my favorite books! The sweet relationship among the sisters and their devoted love and respect for their parents is absolutely beautiful!” Mrs. Cotten said of why she chose this play.
“The story takes place during the civil war era. Their father is a Union soldier in the war. Their mother, Marmee, gives her daughters wise counsel throughout the play to help them through difficult times. Jo is a tomboy at heart who loves to write and act out her stories. Meg is prim and proper and wants to marry into high society. Beth is the musician in the family. She is a very compassionate person. Amy, the youngest, is the artist in the family. She is a spitfire, wanting Laurie (Teddy) to notice her and love her as she loves him. Aunt March is the grumpy Aunt with a heart of gold,” said Mrs. Cotten.
There are seven female parts and four male parts. Mrs. Cotten encourages people to try for many different parts. Portions of the script will be available at the audition, and it is suggested, but not required, to familiarize oneself with the story before auditioning.
“If this is your first time auditioning for a play, I highly encourage you to try, do your best and above all have fun. You never know what may happen! It’s fun to portray different characters that may or may not be like yourself,” Mrs. Cotten advised to newcomers.
Auditions are Aug. 23, 24, and 25 from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The show will be performed Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 pm.
