The reality of the rivalry

The Lew-natics get riled up for the Twin Lakes rivalry game.

If you were to ask a Delphi student what the two most exciting games of the year were, they would probably tell you the Carroll and Twin Lakes games. Both schools have been our rivals since the beginnings of the school. However, in recent years the rivalries have taken new form.

The Carroll game used to be the biggest game of the year without question, but now the Twin Lakes game has taken its place. This is mostly due to trash talk between certain individuals in the schools. Although, if you were to ask the average student about the rivalry, it is likely they don’t know why they dislike the opposing team.

The opposition appears to be much greater among non-athletes, who taunt their rivals from the safety of their cheer block. There have been minor confrontations, but nothing major. Although, It appears that the “radicals” of each school are becoming more spirited than ever.

“We go way back with Carroll,” stated Jack Gillam.  Even so, the Twin Lakes game is the most exciting game all year. Both schools feature large, rowdy cheer blocks that bring life to the game. You enter an entirely different atmosphere as you take in the noise and commotion around you. At the end of the game you leave with your ears ringing, and sheer joy or complete sorrow in your heart.
