The 2012-2013 dance team performs at halftime of most varsity basketball games.

The Delphi dance team is halfway through their season and has been hitting the floor hard with skilled dance moves and continually impressing the audience.

DCHS dance team members’ careers began long before high school.  Mikayla Powlen, sophomore, shared that her calling to the art of dancing occurred over thirteen year ago and she has never regretted it.“Dance has taught me, if you fall down seven times, stand up eight times, and keep dancing.”

First year member Kate Layman, freshman, is enjoying her first year of participation.  “The dance team is a group of girls coming together to share a hobby that they all love, to make new friendships, and to dance.”

The dance team has successfully competed in many competitions.  In their latest competition the team placed second out of five in their category and division.

Senior Alexis Smith is serving as captain of this year’s team, and is learning a lot about responsibility.  “You have to show respect and be a good example to earn spot as team captain.”

The dance team would like for others to join them in showing their special way of expressing school spirit. To try out for the dance team, interested participants come to a two day try out to learn a dance.  After learning the dance and gaining knowledge of what the dance team is all about, they perform the dance in front of the judges.  The judges’ viewpoint determines whether a spot on the team is granted.

“Even though the dance team is hard work, it’s also rewarding,” said Mikayla.

“Being on the dance team helped me gain new friends and a new confidence is my skill level, ”  Kate concluded.

Members of this year’s dance team include Alexis Smith, Lauren Ross, Lindsey Ross, Taylor Brown, Aly Smith, Dakota Smart, Emma Carpenter, Olivia Beighler, Alyssa Ross, Charlie Holliday, Emily Kender, Hilary Cripe, Mikayla Powlen, Abbie Napier, Kate Layman, and Shannon Leahy.
