Wrestling

The Oracle Wrestling team continued its annual success this season under head coach Mike Atwood, an almost expected result. Delphi was competitive on the mats all season long and had multiple team members reach postseason success. Seniors Chase Wilbur, Evan Lehr, and junior Ty Watson were among those who qualified to move past the sectional and on to the regional. Although Wilbur and Lehr saw their seasons come to an end in the beginning rounds of the regional, Watson placed first and moved on to the semi-state where he fell in the first round. Unfortunately, senior leader Dylan Hart who has had much success throughout his high school career battled a shoulder injury that prevented him from wrestling most of the season.

Boys’ and Girls’ Swimming

As we take a look back at the swim season, we would be remiss if we didn’t bring up the improvement of the individuals and the team. Overall, there were 121(!!) personal bests set between the boys and the girls. The boys  won two meets and were led all season by Tanner and Cole Pearson who both advanced past sectionals. For the girls, it was Madi Jacobs who spearheaded the charge for the girls as she was the only individual to advance past sectionals. Senior Oracles who put on their caps for the last time were Olivia Livingston, Sadie Jacobs, Hunter Parker, Molly Pettiner, and Tanner and Cole Pearson  time.

Boys’ Basketball

Nearly a year ago, the Delphi boys’ basketball team faced many struggles on the court. Y The inability to string wins together left the Oracles with only four wins all of last season. However, head coach Brian McCammon knew the potential was there. After a spring, summer, and fall full of hard, offseason work Delphi made huge strides that were very evident this season. Going into the sectional, the Oracles had a 10-12 regular season record. In the first round, Delphi upset Hebron (16-5) in an overtime thriller 70-63. Next up was the sectional semi-final where strong defense propelled the Oracles past North Judson (4-18) in a 50-31 win and a direct berth into the sectional final. In the championship game, Delphi struggled to find any offense as they went on to take second place behind sectional champ Marquette Catholic (16-9). However, Delphi has nothing to hang their heads about. Twelve total wins and being sectional finalist speaks for the hard work and dedication from the Oracles this year. The program bids farewell to a core group of seniors in Weston Windell, Daniel Jakes, Kain Myer, Dalton Briles, and Will Schwindler.

Girls’ Basketball
Going into the new season, there were many questions about how the Lady Oracles would shape up after losing a huge group of seniors that logged a lot of minutes last season. The answer to that was only positives as newcomer Katherine Lang made her presence felt immediately, Delphi never lost stride as they started the season 6-0. The ladies finished the regular season 14-8.. Going into the sectional opener, Delphi entered as overwhelming underdogs to the defending sectional champion Oregon-Davis Lady Cats. After a seesaw game, the Lady Oracles found themselves on top as they upset the defending champs. The next game on the agenda for the Lady Oracles was the Winamac Lady Warriors (14-9); the Warriors have had the Oracles’ number in recent years, beating Delphi in two of the past three sectional games. Going into the break, the Lady Oracles found themselves down a single point. Delphi’s defense gave them the boost they needed as they outscored Winamac 21-9 in the second half. The next step for Delphi was the North Judson Blue Jays (20-5). The Lady Oracles rode their stout defense once again as they held the Blue Jays to just 24 points, 18 of which were scored in the first half. Delphi girls basketball had won their first sectional championship in 21 years, the last year Coach Rainey Jones had played. In the regional, the girls played a tough Hammond Bishop Noll (11-15) team. The Lady Oracles found themselves trailing once again early on in the game, but after finding their offensive stride in the second half, they beat the Lady Warriors 44-38. In the regional championship game, they came across a Central Noble (27-3) team that put Delphi away early, beating the Lady Oracles 63-40. We say goodbye to a group of seniors that won the most games in Delphi girls’ basketball history in Bailey Gasser, Rylee Lane, Kayla Fogarasi, Katie Kinnaird, Krista Jones, and Caitlyn Short.
