2016 Winter Sports Preview

Wrestling: With the cold coming around and the sports moving inside, Delphi wrestling kicks off the season already. With Hall of Fame coach Mike Atwood leading the Oracles, the season is looking to be quite rewarding. Coming off of a season with a state runner up in 185 weight class, Hunter Mote, many people look to fill his shoes in the big arena. The Oracles come back this year with a group of twenty-four athletes, including six seniors. Dylan Hart, returning from his semi-state run last year; Chase Wilber, Marco Rayon, Luis Nieves, Evan Lehr, and newcomer Jensyn Reef all look to help lead what is always a program to contend with.

Boys’ Basketball: The Oracle basketball team is gearing up for yet another season out on the court. Delphi, under guidance from second year head coach Brian McCammon, looks to improve on last year’s four win season with high expectations. Depth, a missing component in recent years, should be no problem for the Oracles this year. The team will be led by seniors Noah Prince, Daniel Jakes, Will Schwindler, Weston Windell, Kain Myer, and Dalton Briles. Also returning to the team is a core group of underclassmen in junior Cade Murray, sophomores Blake Carroll, and Seth Waters.

Girls’ Basketball: The girls’ basketball team has some big shoes to fill. With the departure of two standouts from last season in Myka Roth and Tatum Minier, second year head coach Rainey Jones looks to bring in another successful season for the Lady Oracles. Seniors Rylee Lane, Krista Jones, Caitlyn Short, Katie Kinnaird,  Katie Brown, Bailey Gasser, and Kayla Fogarsi look to carry on the recent winning tradition of the Lady Oracles.

Swimming: The swimming season opens and coaches Jody Pearson and Shawn Billing hope to bring a successful season to the pool. Seniors Olivia Livingston, Sadie Jacobs, Hunter Parker, Molly Pettiner, and Tanner and Cole Pearson will lead this year’s team during their final year in the pool.
