Delphi’s academic teams are having an outstanding year. The Quiz Bowl team consisting of Chase Cripe, Austin Coker, Evan Atkinson, Ben Beeks, and Isaac Miller have been competing in competitions over the past few months and have been showing some great potential. The JV team and the Varsity A team have both had their best season. The JV team received a perfect record of 10-0 while also winning their conference, and the Varsity A team received a record of 10-3 while also placing 4th in the conference.

The season began early in October and they have been practicing twice a week since. Throughout the season certain students have really been stepping up their game, Isaac Miller has been the top JV player and Austin Coker and Evan Atkinson have received all conference for the varsity team.

The Quiz Bowl Varsity A team will be competing in the state match at Harrison High School in March. This will be the second consecutive year that the Varsity A team has made it to the state competition. They received 23rd place last year and they are going for a goal of top 20 this year.

This year’s members are enjoying their experience. “Quiz Bowl has been a lot of fun the last two years. It isn’t like most academic contests because the questions can be anything from pop culture to Norse mythology,” said Evan Atkinson.

The Quiz Bowl team will not only be competing locally but they have been given the opportunity to compete at the national level. To receive this national spot they defeated the Twin Lakes Academic team.

The Academic Super Bowl team will also be kicking off their season. The Academic Super Bowl team is coached by our own Mr. Sietsma. Academic Super Bowl consists of five separate teams – language arts, fine arts, math, science, and history. The theme this year is Ancient Greece. Senior Danielle Kelly said, “This year we have a lot of dedicated individuals in Academic Super Bowl, and I’m excited to see what teams will qualify for the state competition.”
