Delphi elects Independent candidate Shane Evans

The citizens of small-town Delphi, Indiana, elected Independent candidate Shane Evans to serve as Mayor on Thursday, Nov. 4. Evans, 25, is now one of the youngest mayors in Indiana. Evans is a 2008 graduate of Delphi Community High School and is currently a paralegal studying to retake his bar exam.

Evans, obtaining over 55% of all votes, received more votes than both of his opponents combined. Evans received 321 votes, while Democrat Jack Wilson only received 146 and Republican Louis Hayden received 114. Evans’ platform for running was economic development and neighborhood revitalization.

Evans believes that in a town such as Delphi, with fewer than 3,000 residents, party affiliation doesn’t drastically affect the election results. Evans said, “The people of this community know who’s running, as opposed to maybe some of the larger cities around the state. I don’t think in Delphi it matters too much what the party is, because we have an intimate and familiar relationship with the candidates.”
