Best signs from Women’s Marches

As most everyone in the world knows, on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, Donald J. Trump was sworn into office as the 45th President of the United States of America. The next day, Jan. 21, 2017, women flocked the streets of Washington D.C., and many other cities in multiple countries and continents, prompted by the election of one Donald J. Trump, to march for the equality that women deserve.

As the official website for the Women’s March stated, “The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized, and threatened many of us – immigrants of all statuses, Muslims and those of diverse religious faiths, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Native people, black and brown people, people with disabilities, survivors of sexual assault – and our communities are hurting and scared. . . In the spirit of democracy and honoring the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, we join in diversity to show our presence in numbers too great to ignore.” Over 5 million people participated in the Women’s March world-wide, one million in Washington D.C. alone, and many signs sporting intelligent, witty, or political phrases were held triumphantly in the air. Here are some of the best signs from the Jan. 21, 2017 Women’s March.

In Rosie the Riveter’s words: we can do it!

I very much appreciate the person who did this.

This sends the best kind of message. For those of you saying that the Women’s March means nothing and has no point, you’re wrong. For people like this little girl, letting your voice be acknowledged and heard is the most important thing.

Of course you can! From Trump’s election, it’s obvious that anyone can be president. We might as well elect someone who actually graduated elementary school.

Huh. Isn’t it funny how seventy-year old men understand the definition of feminism (i.e. the belief that both men and women should have equal rights), but some young women don’t?

Looking on the bright side is always the way to go.

I just really like this sign. Perhaps it is because I visited Salem over the summer, but something about it speaks to me. People were burned alive just because they were different; I sincerely hope that doesn’t happen again.

It’s true. It’s just a fact. Why do men who don’t have reproductive systems get to vote on whether or not women can use birth control? You’re against abortion? Then don’t take away a major component of NOT getting pregnant.

An extremely powerful sign. It just kind of says something about the whole election.

Need I say more?

An intense sign for an intense time in our history.

Why is it that people are so frightened when they see something in a language they don’t know? I can’t read Spanish, but that doesn’t mean that I tackle a Spanish-speaking person to the ground.

Ah, Julie Andrews. Thank you for giving us a word that so many wonderful puns can be made in.

I have no words for this sign. The ultimate respect for this woman.

It’s true. You’ve been warned.
